Crows Nest
Brief
This knockdown rebuild in a sought-after inner Sydney suburb underwent a successful modern renovation. The interior design brief emphasized low maintenance, modern and consistent choices for all surfaces and fittings throughout the home. A minimalist palette was chosen to complement the strong architectural lines of the build.
Interior design space was a challenge in this contemporary home, which includes three bedrooms, three bathrooms plus a guest/study, a separate laundry and a standalone dining area. The laundry was cleverly designed under the staircase by the architect, and the master ensuite, open to the bedroom, double barn doors where selected allowing the flexibility to open the ensuite up as part of the bedroom, or close the bathroom off for privacy. A fluted glass sliding door covered the narrow toilet, and the same door could slide across the shower entry exposing the toilet, when the shower was in use. The tight staircase winds up to a second story with city views.
The use of mixed hard wearing low maintenance materials such as Colorbond steel, stone bench tops, and clean light reflective surfaces such as the polyurethane cabinetry were complimented by warmer fixtures such as Blackbutt flooring, travertine tiles and soft warmer curtains. The interior design provided a neutral canvas for the home owners to furnish the home with their own personal touch of richly textured and comfortable furnishings.
